Thrudheim Kindred Winter Finding Blót

September 19, 1998

The weather was perfect, if a little warm, on Saturday, September 19 for the Winter Finding blót. Frozen Head State Park was the location for the event which saw around 25 people participate. The first order of the day were the viking games. These included axe throwing, spear throwing, hammer toss, caber toss, and everyone's favorite - cut-n-plunder. Johnny proved to be a real champ in the adult axe and spear throw. Steve tossed the men's caber like a twig while Elizabeth took honors at the women's caber toss. Tara lead the women's hammer toss while James tossed the hammer the farthest for the men. Bernhard had the fastest time for cut-n-plunder although Cliff was a close second. In the childrens' games, James won the axe and spear throw, Trent the caber and hammer toss, while Steffi had the best cut-n-plunder time. Following the games, a picnic lunch was enjoyed.

Most people brought their heathen dress for the blót which really added to the atmosphere. A blade blessing was also held. Dustin and Greg joined the kindred as probationary members. After the blót a short sumbel was performed. Most everyone remarked that they had a good time and once again, many new friendships were formed.
