Thrudheim Kindred Einherjar Blót

November 20, 1999

The kindred gathered at Steve's home in LaFollette to celebrate the Feast of the Einherjar and the god Ullr. It looked like rain but Thor kept things dry so that the kindred could celebrate outdoors.

The event was well attended and several new faces were seen. After introductions and some socializing the feast commenced. Notable items included Steve's chicken and dumplings and Mariah's whole salmon. As usual, there was too much food but the group did its best to put a big dent in it. Steve let the group sample some of his latest brewing creations which were a big hit.

Since Cliff and Elise stayed at home due to the imminent birth of their first child, Steve acted as godhi. Brian sounded the horn to call the gods and goddesses to witness the proceedings. Steve discussed the Einherjar and the winter god Ullr. He also spoke about one of the Nine Nobel Virtues - Discipline. Near the end of the blót, Bernhard presented a viking ship model he had crafted and Tracy placed a clay figure she had made in it to represent the battle slain. Each of those present then spoke a few words about a person or group they wished to remember. At the end, the ship and figure were burnt as an offering.

After the blót, a larger bonfire was made and sumbel was held. Many toasts were heard honoring Tyr, Odin, Freya, and Ullr in keeping with the theme of the celebration. Ancestors who had fought in past battles were also toasted. Wishes were also expressed for several of the kindred in need of one kind or another.

Once the sumbel was over, the kindred had another go at all the food before packing up and heading home. The rain held off until after all the proceedings were finished - thanks to the kindred's patron.
