Clear blue skies and a strong wind greeted the kindred as they gathered at Big South Fork to celebrate Summer Finding and the feast of Ostara. Although the weather was excellent, the kindred practically had the whole park to themselves.
Fried chicken and pies seemed to be the theme of the pot luck feast this time. Cliff made his pork pie again since it was so good at Yule. Steve also made his signature apple pie while Tracy entered the fray with her first ever pie - peach. The kindred took no prisoners and all the pies were vanquished by the end of the day.
Next it was time to color and decorate eggs for the egg hunt. While those were drying, the kids and some adults flew kites. It was sheer madness trying to keep all six kites aloft. Bernhard ran from kid to kid adding more tail to the kites to keep them stable in the strong breeze. When the kids tired, the adults took over. Cliff nearly took out one of the kids with his "beserker" kite while Elise's kite dropped "bombs" as the wind tore it apart.
The egg hunt ended up like most. More time was spent hiding them than finding them, and the eggs did not survive the experience. The land wights ate well that night!
A children's blót was held after they heard the story of Iðunn's apples. They toasted the gods and goddesses with apple juice and made an offering of eggs to the land wights.
Last came the adult's blót and sumbel. Ostara and Freya seemed to receive most of the toasts. During sumbel, Steve and Tracy announced their plans to wed at Winter Finding. A formal betrothal will take place at May Day.
