Thrudheim Kindred Midsummer Blót

June 24-25, 2000

You could tell it was summertime in Tennessee as the weather turned out hot and humid for the kindred's Midsummer celebration. Fortunately there was plenty of shade at the primitive tent camping site at Frozen Head State Park where the kindred gathered. Most of the folk arrived by mid afternoon and the campers pitched tents.

Due to the hot weather no games were held. Instead the group hiked a short distance to Debord Falls. This is a very lovely spot where small falls create a pool surrounded by tall trees. The place was alive with scores of butterflies adding to the special mood.

At dusk the kindred gathered for the blót near a big rock at the campsite. Led by our goði Cliff the runes were sung by all. Sunna, Balder and Eir were the main deities honored at this time. Make took his final kindred oath and was warmly received. His sponsor James was able to make the event having driven up from Arkansas.

After the blót, a three-round sumbel was held around the campfire. Many of the kindred were not able to camp over and left shortly afterwards. The rest stayed up late, talking around the campfire and enjoying fellowship.
