Thrudheim Kindred Freyfaxi Blót

August 20, 2000

The kindred headed west this time to celebrate Freyfaxi. Standing Stone State Park just north of Cookeville was the venue. This site was chosen so that the Nashville group, Skaldheim Kindred, could join in the harvest celebration.

Only three of the kindred were able to camp out the night before. This included Bernhard, Cliff and Steve. They practically had the whole place to themselves. One of the local missionaries dropped by to invite Bernhard and Steve to a Sunday sunrise service but seemed somewhat bemused when he spotted their hammers. As usual, the evening was spent in good conversation around the campfire sampling some of Steve's fine beverages.

The next morning dawned partly cloudy. Most of the kindred showed up at the picnic shelter around 2:00. Several members of Skaldheim Kindred from Nashville also showed up. Both kindreds are trying to meet at least once a year in a sort of informal Tennessee Asatru Council thing. After getting acquainted, it was time for the feast. Of course, there was more food than could be eaten. The land wights made out well.

After dinner, a harvest blót was held honoring Frey. A natural circle of trees was found in the woods behind the picnic shelter. Earlier light showers gave way to sunshine as a bread boar was sacrificed. It was charged with the thanks and hopes of all the attendees. Later, a small grass horse made by Beth was sunk in the local lake.

A short sumbel was held before everyone parted company. It was good to see the folks from Skladheim once again.
