The Nylander homestead was the site of this year's Charming of the Plow Blót. After weeks of rain, things cleared up with beautiful blue skies and sunshine. It was so mild that one did not need a coat outdoors. People traveled from far and wide to come. James made the trip from Arkansas while Laurel drove in again from upper East Tennessee. She also brought a friend, Russell, who was made welcome.
After socializing for a while, the feast got underway. As usual, the food was plentiful and good. Kim's "death by chocolate" dessert is turning into a favorite with the kindred.
The blót took place in the side yard near dusk. As the sun set it turned the clouds into a magnificent orange color. Runes were sung and the space was hallowed. A bread boar was sacrificed and shared with the kindred. In keeping with the theme of the blót, various everyday tools were blessed.
Two of the kindred swore oaths at the blót. Tara took her final step and became a full member of the kindred. John also joined by taking his first oath. Both were welcomed warmly.
After the blót proper was finished, the remainder of the bread boar was offered to the land wights.
