Thruðheim Kindred Midsummer Blót

June 23-24, 2001

In contrast to the May Blót, the weather was absolutely delightful for the Midsummer Fest. It turned sunny and cool which made for great camping at Standing Stone State Park just north of Cookeville. This was a joint celebration for Thrudheim and Skaldheim kindreds.

Many of the campers arrived by noon on Saturday and set up three sites. A dozen or so folks gathered around the campfire for sumbel. A newcomer, Chris, was made welcome. Everyone was in high spirits as toasts, oaths, and boasts were made. Poetry and sagas were recited as well. After the formal sumbel, a number of interesting conversations were held.

On Sunday morning, camp was broken and events moved to a reserved picnic shelter. More of the kindred showed up in the early afternoon. Tara and the twins, Erika and Stefanie, found signs of land wights in the woods and made offerings. After cleaning up trash in the woods, the blót was held. All of the Aesir and Vanir were feted. Joe took his introductory oath and became a member of the kindred.

After the blót, it was time for the feast. Jay and Johnny provided the highlight - BBQ ribs cooked on site. Everyone brought something delicious. Food was also set aside for the ancestors. As evening approached, everyone wished each other well and headed home.
