December 1-2, 2001
This year the kindred decided to squeeze one more camping event into the cycle of celebrations and was rewarded with beautiful mild weather. The location was Bandy Creek Campground in the Big South Fork recreation area near Oneida, TN. A group of 14 showed up Saturday for sumbel and camping.
Sumbel was dedicated to remembering brave men and women throughout history. Their deeds were kept alive by the toasts that were made. After the formal rounds, discussions lasted until the early hours of the morning. The night was brightly lit by a full moon and it was comfortable if somewhat cool sleeping.
Sunday dawned clear and dewy and it felt good to eat breakfast around the fire. Some of the group went for a hike along the river to the Angel Falls Overlook. By noon four more people had arrived and by mid afternoon it was time to honor the gods and ancestors. Steve performed the role of goði for this blót and Ted joined the kindred as an Initiate member. Weapon steel was also blessed.
Immediately after the blot, the feast was held. It stood up to its usual standards of quality and amount. The warm afternoon was spent in conversation and kinship. As the sun began to set, the kindred headed home.
