October 19-20, 2002
Continuing in the fine tradition established this year, it rained for the Winter Nights Blót at the Owen homestead. Actually, Saturday was dry but cloudy and the rain Sunday was not very heavy. It felt more like November weather however. In spite of this, a record group turned out, some 15 or so, for our semiannual seið weekend.
Most folks arrived by mid afternoon and preparations for the feast soon began. Laurel's kitchen was jumping with activity as all the chefs vied for spots on the stove. Again there was so much good food that it was hard to sample everything and still be able to walk later.
After the feast the log cabin was made ready for seið. It was the first time for some new kindred members and guests but they put their heart and energy into it which resulted in a good session. Sumbel followed seið and then the usual merriment until the early hours of the morning.
Sunday dawned gray and rainy but Laurel, Steve, and Talon soon had the kitchen busy again with breakfast making. Besides Laurel's egg and sausage medley and Steve's scratch buttermilk biscuits with gravy, Talon added cheese grits to the mix this year. We all put on a few pounds this weekend.
Laurel acted as gyðja for a Freyja blót. Two new members joined - Ed and Felecia. The kindred welcomed them warmly. Shortly after the blót people started on the journey home.
