Thruðheim Kindred Summer Finding Blót
March 23, 2003
Guests began arriving at the Himes homestead about 1:00 p.m. There was
quite a turnout, with almost all of the members able to attend.
We were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day very appropriate for Summer
Finding. Most of the kindred members spent time catching up outside on the
screen porch and deck, while others enjoyed the weather by walking around
the property and familiarizing themselves with the new surroundings at the
Himes' place. Jade brought some amazing tunics that
she had made herself, in all different colors, made from 100% cotton and trimmed with bright metallic threads. Tracy
announced her intention to go ahead with HeathenDesigns.com, and we all eagerly await the grand opening of the
website.
The feast got underway about 2:30, and as usual, there was plenty of
good, fare to sample including: salmon w/dill sauce, spinach lasagna, sausage
and sauerkraut, fried chicken, various salads, desserts, sides and much more. Dessert consisted of homemade cookies, two kinds of
pie, a chocolate roll cake and coconut cake. There was so much food, not even the Goði could sample it all.
The blot took place outdoors on the lower part of the property near the
pond, now affectionately referred to by most kindred members as 'the bog', between a pile of last year's dead brush and a newly-tilled
field, to help the Folk visualize the transition between Winter and Spring.
Frigg, Hredha and Sunna were hailed as the kindred welcomed the return of
warmer weather. The Blessing of the Lucet was performed followed by members
reading aloud, together the Thrudheim Statement of Faith. Ted presented the
kindred with a wonderful gift crafted by his wife Beth -- a set of runes, carved in amber for the kindred to share.
A sumbel was held outdoors shortly after the blot. There was a mostly
serious tone, as the thoughts of the many members were with our troops in
the Middle East.
After sumbel, conversation lasted into the early evening before members
started making their way home.
