Thruðheim Kindred Einherjar / Ullr and Skaði Blóts

The Einherjar
The Einherjar
This year’s Einherjar blót was held at the Himes homestead, where guests began gathering about 1:00. The weather couldn’t have been finer – sunny, clear and mild, and the turnout was good too, with most kindred members able to attend. We also welcomed back Jade and Phoenix, returned after their many business travels. Additionally, we were joined by Johnny, the goði for Skaldheim Kindred, who is a longtime friend of Thruðheim.

Rather than just having one blót honoring the Einherjar and Ullr, it was decided that this year we would have two blóts. One blót in praise of the Einherjar, and another blót honoring Ullr and Skaði together.

The Ullr and Skaði blót took place in the early afternoon shortly after everyone had arrived. The vei was set up in the lower lot near the garden plot and the pond. Steve, serving as goði for the blót, hallowed the space with both hammer and bow. He and Tracy then spoke a bit about the traits of both Ullr and Skaði and their importance in our faith. Both Great Archers were then hailed and honored by the kindred, and we recognized that it is now time for winter to take its necessary rule in the seasonal cycle.

The feast was held after the first blót. As usual, there was way too much food – all of it good. During the feast, Summer was presented with a cupcake in celebration of her fourth birthday. Happy birthday, Summer!

The Einherjar blót took place in the late afternoon. Once again, Steve served as goði. The Einherjar were hailed, and important friends and family members who served and fought protecting our country were remembered. Weapon steel was also blessed during the blót.

The rest of the beautiful afternoon was spent in conversation and kinship. As the sun began to set, the kindred headed home.
