Thruðheim Kindred Winter Finding Blót

September 27-28, 2003

Frozen Head State Park at Winter Finding and heavy rain seem to go together like the great taste of peanut butter and chocolate. The weekend festivities got off to a soggy and chilly start on Saturday afternoon, with Kindred campers and friends huddled under the Viking LongTarpR while riding the storm out.

The rain finally eased up late Saturday afternoon and finally stopped for good by about 6:00. This allowed everyone to set up camp and begin the process of drying out and warming up. Most of the evening was spent circled around the campfire visiting and discussing recent events. Sumbel was held late in the evening, and a special toast to Talon and Felecia was made exactly at midnight (as Talon and Felecia were starting their day in Germany).

Sunday was a beautiful and sunny fall day, though still a bit damp from the previous day’s storms.

Feast was held about 1:00 and included pork loin, fried chicken, Cajun red beans and much more. After feast, Naya and Bernhard’s birthdays were celebrated, complete with candle-blowing-out and singing (Nice cake, Tracy!).

Blót began shortly after the birthday festivities. The space was hallowed with both hammer and spear, as this was a blót dedicated to Oðin. The Gray Wanderer was hailed and a rune drawing was held. During Kindred rites, both John and Herbert became companion members. All Hail the Oath Takers!

After blót, the campsite was cleaned up and members began heading home after another soggy, yet memorable Winter Finding weekend at Frozen Head State Park.
