Thruðheim Kindred Winter Nights Blót

November 1-2, 2003

The day was sunny and warm as Thruðheim Kindred began its Winter Nights activities on Saturday at Ted and Beth’s new property. Many thanks (hails, props, shout outs, etc.) to Ted, Beth, and everyone else who contributed their time, effort, and labor into the getting the land cleared and the campground and seið areas ready.

Those camping enjoyed the new surroundings Saturday afternoon while visiting and catching up with one another. As the sun went down and evening approached, most ate dinner while preparations were being made for seið.

The seið session was held outdoors, under clear and cool skies, in a separate clearing form the campground. It was a good, yet strangely calm session, where all questions that needed asking were asked and duly answered by the seiðkonas.

Following seið, sumbel was held around the campfire. After sumbel, kipper time came and went and members talked until the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday morning arrived bright and sunny like the day before it. Feast was early in the afternoon and included a variety of desserts, as well as chili, stew, fried chicken, pasta salad, and more.

After feast, Make was presented with a gift -- a new guitar, given to him by the kindred as a replacement for one that was stolen (more thanks go out here to all the kindred members that helped make this happen).

A Freyja blót took place shortly after the gift was given. The White Lady was hailed as we said goodbye to fall and began preparations for winter. Shortly after the blót people started on the journey home.
