Thruðheim Kindred Freyfaxi Blót

It was an eventful weekend with a sizable turnout for the Freyfaxi Blót at Norris Dam State Park . All day long, it seemed as though the sky would open up and rain would pour down upon us. A modified LongTarpR was quickly set up just in case, and kindred members, family, and friends spent the day visiting, throwing the football, impersonating rock stars, and catching up with one another as the clouds passed overhead.

Later that evening, with the rain still threatening, all gathered around the campfire for sumbel. It was a very powerful sumbel, which started off somewhat somber and built up in intensity as it progressed. Sumbel was finished off with Herbert swearing an oath that in the summer of 2006 he would find a way to return to Scandinavia for another visit to the “homelands.” After the oath, other members said that we should try making it a group trip if possible and it was agreed upon that we would begin looking into this and discussing it.

It was kipper time after sumbel wrapped up, and this time we really put-a-hurtin’ on the small fish. Tins were scattered about the picnic table afterward – it may have been a record for total tins consumed (TTC).

The rains finally came well after midnight after most of the group had turned in for the evening. Those not ready to call it a night gathered under the LongTarpR and conversed into the wee hours of the morning.

The rain had stopped by the time everyone was up Sunday morning, though it was still pretty wet. It being harvest time, a blót to Frey was held in the early afternoon led by Cliff. The space was hallowed with both antler and hammer, Frey was hailed and thanks were given.

After the blot, it was time for the traditional stone soup feast. Once again Beth outdid herself combining the random meats and veggies, etc., into a quite tasty soup. There was also homemade bread, barbeque, and several desserts to top everything off.

Once the feast was over, the kindred visited a while more, then headed home after a very eventful weekend.
