Thruðheim Kindred Baldr Blót and Thing
March 12-13, 2005
As is becoming customary for our non-camping events, we once again gathered together on Saturday evening for a sumbel outdoors around a fire. This time, Make and Jada played host, and their chimenea provided more than enough heat to keep everyone warm on a cool evening.
This particular sumbel was mostly serious in tone. Undoubtedly, bonds of kinship and community were strengthened as horns were raised to the Gods, family and friends were remembered, and boasts and hopes for the future were made.
Following sumbel, we continued to eat, drink, and visit until well into the evening until everyone left for his or her home to prepare for the events of the day to follow.
We were greeted with warmth and sun until the early afternoon on Sunday, which was most appropriate for a blót to Frigga’s favorite son, Baldr.
Members and friends once again gathered at Make and Jada’s home – it was a good turnout with all but our “out of state/country” members able to attend.
A powerful blót, led by Cliff, began shortly after everyone arrived. Baldr was hailed and the lessons taught by his stories were remembered.
Feast was after blót, and yes, once again there was an abundance of incredible fare to sample. All hail the Thruðheim chefs, who make every gathering a feast to remember!
Following feast, we gathered together to finish up important kindred business from last month’s Thing. All wrapped up nicely, and everyone felt good at the conclusion of the discussions.
Eventually, as the skies darkened and filled with clouds, members left for their homes after another satisfying weekend together.
