Gee Creek campground played host to Thrudheim’s first camping event on 2005. Despite heavy rain showers Friday evening over much of the area, the weekend weather couldn’t have been much more pleasant. It was weather GoldilocksR would approve of – not too sunny, not too cloudy, not too warm, and not too cold.

It was a typical Thrudheim camping Saturday. We set up camp, snacked on chips and salsa, visited, and caught up with each other. Make and Jada brought badminton and volleyball supplies with them, and the more energetic folks passed the time working up a sweat batting different objects around with varying degrees of success.   At sundown we all grabbed our horns (and other appropriate drinking vessels) and gathered around the fire for sumbel.

As typical as Saturday afternoon was, Saturday evening sumbel was anything but. It was a very, serious, somber, emotional sumbel … one of those that happens only once in a great while.  It is always a comfort to know that we have kin with whom we can discuss serious issues, and who can always be counted on for support no matter the circumstances. HAIL THE FOLK!

Saturday evening concluded with the ever popular KipperTimeR. The small fish took a beating from some hungry Vikings – final score: Vikings 42, Kippers 0.

Sunday arrived with skies threatening rain, however, the clouds quickly burned off and gave way to plenty of sunshine. Around one o’clock, everyone gathered around the vei for a blót to Freya. Once again, Beth presided over the blót as gyðja. Freya was hailed, and worries were released as torn pieces of paper were burned in a fire.

Following blót, it was time for feast. Some of the delicious fare included pork loin, sesame kale, fresh fruit, pasta salad and many wonderful desserts. Once everyone had their fill, camp was broken down and everyone headed back home concluding the event-filled weekend.
