Thruðheim Kindred Freyfaxi Blót 2008
Including the Kindred Oath of Clint
August 16-17, 2008

Clint takes his Kindred Oath |
The turnout was a bit smaller than last month as the kindred celebrated Freyfaxi at Frozen Head State Park. Still, at 14 adults and three kids, it beat attendance at many a blot in the past. Most of the campers arrived by early evening. Time was spent putting up tents, pulling chairs up to the camp fire, and enjoying good conversation.
At dusk, sumbel was held in the usual manner. The three rounds went rather quickly this time followed by a few additions during open sumbel. A late-night snack of small fish capped the evening for most. Some die-hards tried to organize a sing-along but the leaders were quickly sacked by those trying to sleep. A full moon and cool temperatures awaited the weary revelers.
On Sunday, the day dawned brightly as the campers gathered around the camp fire to ward off the unexpected coolness. After a sumptuous feast of breakfast tacos, courtesy of Felecia and Talon, a few more members arrived. By noon it was time to hold blot. Cliff lead a three-round blot to Frey, Idun, and the Alfar. The Vanir were obviously in attendance given the light-heartedness felt by all. A bread boar was offered to the gods as symbolic thanks for a good harvest. This was followed by Clint's investiture as a new kindred member. Hail the oath taker!
The feast was, as always, a sumptuous affair. Main items included chicken, bratwurst, tuna casserole, and hamburgers. Sides consisted of potato salad, kasha, sausage, and cheese. For dessert there were pies, pastries, peaches, and what was once a chocolate cake, but due to Sunna's warmth, became more like chocolate pudding. The kindred took it in stride and finished every last bit. By late afternoon it was time to clean up and head home.
