Thruðheim Kindred Freyfaxi Blót 2009
August 15-16 2009

Spence performs the Hammer Warding |
After a mostly mild and rainy summer the heat returned with a vengeance as the kindred gathered to celebrate Freyfaxi. The site was once again Frozen Head State Park where the tall trees and deep valleys offered a cool and shady haven. The turnout was less than the previous month partly due to a spate of summer colds. This made for quick rounds during sumbel. The Vanir always seem to make their presence felt at this particular event and this year was no exception as witnessed by the abundance of mirth. Some stayed up long after Kipper Time sharing jovial company around the camp fire.
Sunday dawned bright and sunny after a beautiful rain-free night, thanks to the kindred's demand forcing Bernhard to put up his tent's rain-fly. Some got an early start taking down their tents while others enjoyed breakfast around the camp fire. Make joined the campers later in the morning as did the family of Bernhard's eldest daughter. Spence served as godhi and led a blot to Frey. The Lord of the Alfar was thanked for the bountiful harvest and a gift was offered in return in the form of a bread boar.
After the blot came the feast which was a meaty affair this time. There were hotdogs, hamburgers, meat turnovers, and chicken for the main course. These were accompanied by potato salad, chili, and cheeses. For dessert there was a tasty berry medley and peach pie. The kindred lingered long after the feast was over enjoying the beautiful day. By mid-afternoon it was time to bid farewell and head home after another satisfying weekend;
