Feast of Thor blót

The doors of Jarlshof were once again opened to provide the Folk of Thrudheim Kindred warmth and hospitality as they assembled for the Feast of Thor. Guests began arriving in the late afternoon on Saturday and were delighted to discover that we would be joined in the festivities by our friends Johnny and Julia from Vidarshof Kindred of Middle Tennessee.

In tried and true fashion, the Kindred members caught up on the happenings of the past month while enjoying the bountiful offerings of the snack table and whatever tasty beverages they saw fit to bring.

As evening settled into night, and all the guests who were expected had arrived, the lights were dimmed and all made ready for Sumbel. The folk-binding ritual lasted well into the fourth round as many Gods and Ancestors were hailed, and hopes for the future toasted to. Perhaps the most memorable toast of the evening was Johnny's tribute to the T.O.B.'s of the world (you just had to have been there).

When the Sumble fires were doused and the offerings given, conversation and fellowship and of course, snacking continued for a little while longer before everyone finally called it a night.

The next morning brought a chilly January rain but many more guests as well. Many of those who were unable to attend Sumbel arrived for Blot, and we were also joined by two more guests, Cliff's friends Mike and Kyra.

When the Vei was assembled, and the call sounded the Folk gathered for Blot. Godhi Cliff led us in a powerful ceremony honoring our friend Thor and thanking him for his continued gifts of strength and protection. The Blot also included a special Hammer Blessing rite in which the Kindred members were asked to bring any ritual hammer used either for Kindred rites or for personal ones, to be blessed. Anyone there can surely attest to the great energy that permeated the room during the Blot. Thor's presence was definately made known.

When the Blot was done, the folk braved the cold rain to give the offering to the earth and quickly returned indoors to enjoy the bountiful feast. January is the Kindred's traditional "Soup Feast" so many varieties of delicious soups were made available as well as the added bonus of a big hulking slab of the Kindred's favorite meat, PORK! Bread for soppin', and a small dessert selection rounded out the wonderful meal, the conclusion of which brought a close to another Thrudheim blot weekend.
